UNDERSTAND YOUR ESTIMATE
How this calculator works
Area = eave length × depth ÷ 12. Strips = ceiling(eave length × 12 ÷ exposed panel width). Cuts per stock panel = floor(stock length × 12 ÷ depth). Panels = ceiling(strips ÷ cuts per panel). Waste is applied to this whole-panel count and rounded up again.
Major factors affecting the result
- Exposed coverage must exclude the overlap or locking edge.
- The cut layout assumes equal depth and perpendicular strips.
- Allow for cutting loss, damaged pieces and corners in your waste percentage.
Put the numbers in context
100 ft of eave at 24 in deep covers 200 sq ft. At 12 in coverage and 12 ft stock length, there are 100 strips, 6 cuts per panel and 17 panels. With 10% waste, purchase 19 panels.
What is not included
Fascia, channels, fasteners, labor and ventilation design. Exact-fit cuts assume no saw kerf; adjust stock length or waste for your cutting method. Varying eave depths should be calculated separately. Area-priced cost is an allowance, not a whole-sheet cutting quote.
When to get a professional quote
Use the result to organize your questions and compare the same scope across written quotes. Confirm inclusions, exclusions and site conditions with the person doing the work. For structural, electrical, HVAC or tree-hazard decisions, consult a qualified professional.
Frequently asked questions
Why is stock panel length needed?
Coverage width alone cannot tell you how many retail panels to buy. Stock length determines how many depth-length strips each panel can produce.
Does this calculate ventilation needs?
No. Choose vented products and ventilation area using manufacturer instructions and an appropriate building design.

This is a geometric purchasing model, with formulas shown above. Opening, corner and waste allowances are explicit user-adjustable planning assumptions, not construction standards or code requirements.
Check exposed coverage, usable stock lengths and installation details against your chosen product documentation. No default material price is supplied.
